Join us for a departure on March 7, 2013 and enjoy the next 12 days visiting Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu and Scared Valley

 

Day 1 – Depart Canada or the United States for your overnight flight to Lima, Peru.

Day 2 – Welcome to Lima! Peru’s Capital, as well as the most cosmopolitan city in the country. After going through all of Peru’s customs and immigration, meet with a our local representative in the international arrivals hall and transfer to your hotel Westin Hotel & Convention Centre. After check in, rest of the day is free to relax or get out and enjoy the sights and sounds of Lima.

Tonight if you like you can take advantage of the following optional activities (options are not included in the price)
Dinner at Sagra Restaurant – A fun, modern and colourful restaurant to discover the sophistication of Peruvian food.
Discover Lima’s night life at one of the most famous gay clubs in Peru have a fun and crazy night dancing until the sunrise

Hotel in Lima: Westin Hotel and Convention Centre

Day 3 – Lima – After breakfast, this morning will start your adventure in Peru. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Lima, which take you along the main streets, avenues and plazas of the city. Enjoy a stroll through Lovers Park in Miraflores with spectacular views to the Pacific Ocean and here you will understand why this city is know as “The Pearl on the Pacific”. Then move on to Huaca Pucllana a ceremonial centre of the early inhabitants of Lima then move on to San Isidro, the financial centre of the city, you will be able to appreciate Huaca Huallamarca and ancient Pre-Inca shrines. After this head to the main square with a visit to the Palace of Government and City Hall, then we continue on foot to visit the Cathedral and the Convent of Saint Francisco of the XV11 century where you will be able to enter the famous catacombs.
Lunch today will be at “Cafe Del Museo”, located in the main garden of the Larco Museum. After lunch enjoy a visit to the Larco Museum, a XV111 century mansion built on top of a pre-Colombian pyramid of the V11 century. The highlights are the storeroom and the unique exhibition of erotic pottery of pre-Colombian times.
Tonight we will be having drinks and dinner at the Aliaga Mansion, located next to the Palace of Government. This beautiful colonial manor was built in 1535 and Pizarro himself designated the land to his Captain Geronimo de Aliaga y Ramirez and ever since it has been the family home of the Aliaga family. Currently the manor is occupied by the sixth generation of the family. We will be welcomed with a cocktail, a visit of the manor and then dinner in this historical home. After dinner return to the hotel.

Day 4 – Lima – Pachacamac,Barranco: After breakfast this morning board your luxury private bus to travel 30 KM to the south of Lima to the archaeological sanctuary of Pachacamac. Adobe made and overlooking the ocean and the Lurin River Valley, this was the centre of pilgrimage for many of the cultures that inhabited Peru in the past. When the Incas arrived, the complex was adapted as an administrative centre, respecting the local constructions, visit the the Temple of the Sun, The Acllahuasi, The Taurichumbi Palace and the Pilgrims Plaza. We will also visit the on-site Museum to have better understanding of the amazing site and as well as see some of the remains found in the area.

Today lunch will be at Hacienda Los Ficus, located close to the sanctuary where we will have a home made buffet lunch and enjoy a Peruvian “Paso” horse show.

After lunch, as we return to Lima we will make a stop in one of the most beautiful and traditional districts of Lima: Barranco, known as the the bohemian district and home for the most renowned plastic artists of Peru. The visit will begin with at The Pedro de Osma museum, an ancient palace of the republican style that houses awesome specimens of Colonial art. A visit to this museum not only shows us a hidden part of Lima, but also it is the perfect way to understand the entire history of the ancient capital of vice-royalty.

Return to the hotel: If you like the following optional activities area available for this evening. (options are not included in the price)

Dinner at Cala Restaurant: A warm, intimate and modern restaurant that specializes in seafood located by the beaches of Lima

The Magical Circuit of Water: A complex of 13 fountains that offer an impressive and modern show of water, light and music.

Day 5 Lima: The culinary capital of Latin America! Lima is a city whose people have cultivated a passion for food, which has produced a very high quality, diverse and surprising cuisine. This passion is practice not only in the best restaurants but also in typical cebicherias, small family bistros, Chinese restaurants (chifas), chicken specialty restaurants and more. Join our specialist guide for a journey of discovery. This morning we will be on a exquisite tour of the flavours and aromas at the local market, here we learn about the fruits, vegetables, spices and herbs that have been used in Peruvian cuisine for centuries, We will then learn about Peruvian gastronomy, where you will learn the secrets of how to prepare some of the most famous dishes and then enjoy a lunch of the foods that you have just prepared.

After lunch return to the hotel and balance of the day is at your leisure to rest or wander around Lima. It is suggested that tonight you get to bed early as the next morning will start bright and early.

Day 6 Lima – Cusco/Sacred Valley; After breakfast this morning you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival in Cusco, we will board a private luxury bus an taken to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. En route to the valley we will make a stop in Chinchero where we will enjoy a walk around this beautiful town and archaeological complex, here we will also have the opportunity to see a short exhibit traditional textiles, a distinctive feature of this town dedicated to following the ancestral dyeing techniques to create high quality works of art. After the exhibit we will continue to the Scared Valley, en route we stop at view point to see an amazing view of the Scared Valley and enjoy a refreshment a show of local characters, from here we will continue to our hotel “The Luxury Collection Tambo del Inka Hotel”. Here you can enjoy the impressive surroundings and grounds of this amazing property or enjoy a spa treatment(not included) or take one of the optional tours.

Pisaq Market: Visit one of the most famous spots at the Scared Valley. Explore the Pisaq Market with enough free time to wander around and and buy hand crafts and if you feel like a taste of the valley stop by the wood ovens for a delicious empanada or slice of bread.

Tour Pablo Seminario Workshop: The workshop of renowned artist Pablo Seminario famous for creating his own style inspired by ancient civilizations such as Nasca, Wari, Chancay just to name a few.

Zip Line over the Valley: One country many colours and what better way to see it then zip lining over the valley for 500 meters. The zip line is designed for the adrenaline junkie that wants to fly high above the valley and be in awe of the amazing views. This experience gives people of all ages the opportunity to fly over this magical and magnificent valley in a safe and fun way.

Day 7 Sacred Valley – Ollantaytambo – Maras – Moray
We will start the day in Ollantaytambo, a small town full of local color and inhabited since Inca times in which we will visit the main temple used as a fortress during the Inca resistance. Breathtaking views for amazing pictures. Our trip continues in Moray, a place with breathtaking views thanks to its colossal concentric terraces resembling a coliseum. The terraces recreated 20 different types of microclimates, and they were studied to ensure the agricultural production of the empire.

Lunch will take place at El Parador de Moray; a house turned into a private restaurant, located next to the Moray terraces. A unique and magical culinary experience with a breathtaking location. Dishes are made with the products of the Sacred Valley: potatoes, seeds, pork, legumes among others.

We will then continue to Maras, the millenary colonial salt mines. The contrast of the white pools against the green valley is so impressive that it resembles a postcard. Return to the hotel and overnight stay in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.


Day 8 Machu Picchu

Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu (Hiram Bingham Train)
Departure to the Ollantaytambo Station, where we will embark into one of the most spectacular rides aboard the exclusive Hiram Bingham deluxe train.

Train departs from Ollantaytambo Station at 10:50 am and arrives to Aguas Calientes Station: 12:24 pm

The experience on board is purely first class. The train’s incredible classic style goes perfectly with the dining room arrangement, making it easy to taste the delightful lunch carefully prepared for us by experienced chefs. The landscapes are breathtaking and while we follow the Urubamba River course getting closer and closer to the canyon, we’ll arrive at Machu Picchu Village.

From there, we will take a small bus up the winding road to Machu Picchu (25 to 30 minutes). The Lost City of the Incas will astonish us with its terraces, ceremonial shrines, steps and the solar clock or Intihuatana, all this amidst a special atmosphere and on a guided tour.

After touring, we will have a tea time at the Sanctuary Lodge Hotel and then we will descent to the village and come back to the hotel.

Overnight at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, dinner included at the hotel.

Day 9 Machu Picchu – Cusco

Today is a day of choice: You can enjoy time at the hotel and it’s vast grounds or go out and get to know the locals of the “Pueblo” (town) or maybe take a second entrance to Machu Picchu or go out on a hiking adventure with a second entrance to Machu Picchu & Trekking to Huayna Picchu

Entrance tickets to Machu Picchu are limited. We suggest applying for the entrance tickets for later dates the moment you book the whole tour program so as to avoid any complications due to congestions or lack of local availability. In an addition visit to Machu Picchu we will be able to see the areas of the Intipunku or Door of the Sun, the Inca Trail entrance to the citadel. For those looking for a more intense adventure and wish to visit Huayna Picchu, it is important to have in mind that there are only 400 daily spots to climb the mountain, all of which have to be reserved in advance.

• Second entrance to Machu Picchu
• Second entrance to Machu Picchu + trekking to Huayna Picchu

At the arranged time, we will return to Cusco by train and will be transferred to the hotel.

Train departs from Aguas Calientes Station at 17:50 hrs and arrives to Poroy Station (Cusco City): 19:25 hrs

Overnight at Monasterio Hotel in Cusco

Day 10 Cusco

Early this morning, we will distance ourselves from the crowds and visit Sacsayhuaman, a huge and impressive fortress of colossal constructions and surrounded by beautiful views blending together perfectly. Our adventure continues at the Inca shrine Qenqo, to see a sacrificial altar embedded inside a rock cave. Finally, we will arrive to the Puca Pucara viewpoint and Tambomachay, monument of impressive architectonic knowledge considered as one of the pillars of Andean cosmovision.
We will then move to Limo restaurant, located at the Main Square, to have lunch. This restaurant is well known for blending typical Peruvian dishes and ingredients with modern techniques, having as result a fun and young ambiance.
After lunch, we will take our exclusive city tour with a visit to the San Cristobal Plaza to enjoy its panoramic view of the city. Then, we will visit the San Pedro Market to soak in its local flavors and to learn about more of the products grown in the area which supply the whole city. After this, the Korikancha temple will welcome us in all its magnificence; this temple, whose Quechua name means “Gold Enclosure”, still bedazzles us with the thought of its gold covered walls. We continue the afternoon with a visit to the Santo Domingo Church. We will walk from San Blas, the artisans’ neighborhood, to the Hatun Rumiyoc street, stopping at the Inca Roca Palace, nowadays home to the Archbishop’s Palace and also at the famous Twelve Angle Stone. We will continue our walk to the Main Square to visit the Cathedral and its valuable and beautiful colonial masterpieces. Return to the hotel.
Tonight, we will be having dinner at the MAP Café, a glass cube, located in the middle of the patio of the Precolumbian Art Museum where dining is a high-end experience.

Day 11 Cusco

Today is a day to get out and enjoy Cusco on your own. Stroll the streets of one of the most iconic cities in the world, visit its churches, meet the locals or go shopping in the San Blas Neighbourhood. Today is the day to take in all that Cusco has to offer relax and enjoy your last day in this city that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Another fun fact about Cusco it is designated as the Historical Capital of Peru and protected by the Constitution of Peru.

Tonight we will enjoy a farewell dinner at Quinta La Gloria and impressive restaurant with unique views of Cusco. After dinner return to the hotel.

Day 12 Cusco – Lima

This morning after breakfast we will be transferred to Cusco airport for our flight back to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima we will be transferred to our hotel the Westin Hotel and Convention Centre where you will have the rest of the day free to enjoy Lima and all its wonders.

Day 13 Lima – Back Home to the USA or Canada or stay on in Peru for an amazing Amazon River Cruise option.

This morning after breakfast and depending on what time the flight are at we will be transferred to the airport and here you will either say good bye to Peru and take home some unbelievable memories or continue with an Amazing Aqua Expeditions Amazon River Cruise. If you elect this option you will board a flight for Iquitos, upon arrival in Iquitos you will transferred to Aqua Expeditions 5 star river boat to start an unforgettable journey deep in the Amazon Jungle of Peru, with all the comforts of home and then some.
